Location:

SR-30 for the Utah Department of Transportation, May 2016. 

Method:

Cutler Repaving Inc. Single Pass Hot In-place Repaving. 

1.5” cold mill first to remove several layers of chip seal; then recycling 1.5” depth adding 1.5” of new AC on the surface in a single pass. 

New AC:

½” minus. Superpave 75 gyration, 64-34 binder mix with 20% RAP. State of Utah mix Gr.SX(75)PG64-34. 

Recycling Agent:

0.15 gal/syd; HFMS-2P for the 1.5” recycle depth. 

Haul Route:

50 miles, approximately 1.5 hours up Logan Canyon. 

Vertical climb = 2900’ to a maximum elevation of 7800’. 

Project location on the shores of Bear Lake, elevation 6000’. 

2 Cutler conventional preheaters; 1 new forced air heating hood PCV; 1 conventional heating Repaver, in that order on the roadway. 

Equipment:

New forced air heating hood deployed on PCV. 

  • Cool ambient temperatures 

  • High elevation 

  • 1.5” recycle depth (typical 1”) 

  • Minimal smoke 

  • Long haul
